Jessica Stover 0:02 This recording is an offering of Networks for Training and Development's Online University. Rosa McAllister 0:09 Hi, everyone. This is Rosa McAllister from Networks for Training and Development. And we are here for another episode of Muck 2 Mojo. This was a series initiated by the trauma committee of the Northumberland County Intel - oh my goodness, I can never remember the full title - Intellectual Disability Services. I hope I didn't butcher that. I'm getting a nod from Jen, thank you. And we decided a few months ago to try to do something to help all of us, ourselves included, to kind of remember that even when we're in the midst of a lot of Muck, that we still have some Mojo and or we can find some Mojo from one another. So these are brief 20 minutes sessions. And you may be watching this at a later date, because we are recording this. And they're being led by various members of the Northumberland county trauma committee. They're only about 20 minutes long, give or take. And we're doing it on the fourth Monday of the month, typically 12:30pm eastern time, I say typically, because in May, we're going to shift it, because the fourth Monday of the month is Memorial Day. So we'll be doing it on the third Monday of the month, in May. But anyway, here we are, it is March 29 2021. And to get us started, I'm going to pass the ball to Lauren, who has been starting us off with a card reading to get us going. And then she's going to pass it to Jessica Stover who's going to be leading this show. So hey, Lauren! Lauren Hackenburg 1:44 Sure, I'm happy to be here happy that everybody's gathered. And thank you, I again, I couldn't decide, so two that I'm just reading really quick - two cards from the deck of "52 Relaxing Rituals". And I'm reading both of them because they kind of go hand in hand. And it's funny because as I was jumping in, I was hearing you say about how you're, you're not artistic Rosa and you know, so you're like, Oh, I just don't you know, don't do it because of the blow up pots or whatever you're saying. And when I was just zooming in, and I thought, well, this will maybe encouraged you to still do that after I read this card, or whatever it is because the point is really with our hobbies and things like that, we just need to do something different, it doesn't matter for good or not. Without further introduction, I'll just go ahead and read the card. The card one of two. Lauren Hackenburg 2:34 The first card is called A Little Hobby. And it reads like this. Is there something you always wanted to try but thought or knew you had no natural talent for do it anyway, take up painting, create collages, study auto mechanics, or learn to make jewelry, you don't have to be artistic or mechanically inclined, as long as you just enjoy yourself. activities you aren't trying to master can be the most relaxing, because you don't have to create a perfect outcome or even come close. If you make baskets, just because the process is relaxing to you, you'll make wonderful baskets, even if you can never get them to be round. Okay, so that that card was a little hobby. And like I said, this one kind of goes hand in hand with it. Lauren Hackenburg 3:30 So I'm going to go ahead and also read this one called real quick called Silly Skills. Learn to juggle, tie elaborate knots, or fold origami. And they are not just fun physical and mental activities, but also strange thing that you can do later at parties to entertain and surprise everybody with your random hidden talents. So just some thoughts. Try a little hobby, or try some silly skills, if you're feeling lucky lately. And that's it. So I'll go ahead then and pass the ball over to to Jessica. Thank you. Jessica Stover 4:11 Awesome, thanks, Lauren. Hey, everyone, because Stover from network. So today I'm going to lead you through the seven maybe 10, maybe nine, maybe 11 whatever kind of floats my boat here of different self acupressure points. And this, this actually goes hand in hand with the second card that Lauren shared, kind of like those party tricks. So you're going to have some additional party tricks if you're not familiar with these. These first few are going to be for stress and anxiety really, I'm going to describe these as best they can since this is going to be shared through audio. Jessica Stover 4:50 And so this first one, it is for stress and anxiety and it's the Governing Vessel 20 - D U 20 - also termed the Hundred Meetings. So the location, it's at the crown of head. So to find it, place a finger at the top of each ear and follow an imaginary line upward. D U 20 is located where your two fingers meet. So those who are looking at my video, those were listening, again to take your fingers and put them at the top portion of your ear and just follow them up toward to the crown of your head and where they meet is the Hundred Meetings, or Governing Vessel 20, D U 20. And it regulates the movement of all Yang energy in the body, and pressing on this point can both raise the Yang to lift depression and sadness, and it can also ground energy to ease anxiety and overthinking. It also clears the mind to help you feel focused and present. As a Sea of Marrow Point, D U 20 nourishes the brain and helps to treat headaches, dizziness, and insomnia, and other challenges you may face. So in a day where you may be having or feeling kind of the weight of the world, a lot of stress, take your two index fingers, put them over the top of your ears, make the imaginary line to the crown. That's the point and you're just going to apply some gentle pressure for five to 10 seconds, kind of moving the fingers around very gently in a circular motion. And then you release. So there is the first one, Jessica Stover 6:29 The second, it's the Yin Tang, the Hall of impression. This one is located between the eyebrows in the area known as The Third Eye. So we're going to find our eyebrows - and we're going to the area right in between - is the Yin Tang or the Hall of Impression. So it powerfully calms the spirit in takes the edge off emotional restlessness and anxiety, and connects the pineal gland, and promotes deep relaxation. It can also treat insomnia, and it can also help headaches. So any of us who experience daily or just this ongoing difficulty with headaches or migraines or things of that nature, this can be a really great support that you can give to yourself. It can also help foggy thinking, it can ease nasal congestion or a runny nose, and overall promotes emotional well being. So again, so this point right between the eyebrows, find our eyebrows go to the middle. And again, it can be done with one finger - either hand of the index finger applying some light pressure, it doesn't matter. You can apply your light pressure, four to five seconds, maybe do a circular massage motion with your fingertip overtop of that point, and release. And these are terrific because you can do them yourself whenever you need them. They're in your toolbox. Jessica Stover 7:51 The next one is Gallbladder 21, or G B 21. And it's also known as The Shoulder Well. So I'm wearing a sweatshirt - it's chilly here in Central Pennsylvania. It is March 29. But it is windy and cold, and in two days, it's going to be like 20 degrees overnight, so I'm wearing a sweatshirt. So I'm going to try to spin / point this hood back here to the side. So it's at the highest point of the shoulder in the muscle in the midpoint between the spine and the rotator cuff. So you're going to go to this area - and it's just like I said that midpoint - and you're going to be pressing into it and it's going to release stress and tension held in the upper body. And it can also help mitigate feelings of maybe if you're feeling angry, it can help with migraines, high blood pressure. And it's also really helpful for any of us who kind of carries the weight of the world on our shoulders. If you press will this point be sure to be maintaining strict steady breaths into your abdomen. Jessica Stover 8:52 But DO NOT use this point. If you are pregnant. DO NOT use it on or with others who are pregnant. That's a huge caveat. It can induce labor potentially for people so DO NOT use if you're pregnant at any stage, or with others who are pregnant in any stage. Okay? Jessica Stover 9:13 So again, it's at that midpoint of the muscle between the spine and the rotator cuff, you find it apply some gentle pressure, you can use your index and middle finger and again either shoulder it'll be the same point. You're going to apply some ligiht, gentle pressure for four to five seconds, maybe give some circular massage movement. And then you're going to release. Jessica Stover 9:34 The next one - Conception Vessel 17 or R E N 17. It's also the Chest Center. So you're going to find it at the center of your chest, midway between the chest here, right inner cavity here. So it's beneficial for those who feel stressed and anxiety again. It can also be met when you're knowing you're having this work could be a beneficial if you're having maybe some points of anxiety and you're having some shortness of breath due to the anxiety you're experiencing, or if you're having tightness in your chest or palpations that are not related to any kind of medical condition, as far as heart attacks. Obviously seek medical treatment for that immediately. Jessica Stover 9:34 But if you are experiencing anxiety, and you have these comingling pieces that occur during an anxiety attack, if you may experienced this. So what it does - it's going to relax and open up your chest, and it's going to release the diaphragm. And it's an influential point of the Chi - an energy point. And it's an essential to be regulating the movement of this energy, which can also become very much stuck when we're in emotional distress. So again, you find it, it's in the midpoint of our chest. Generally, like between the nipples on a male or female. You're going to find that point, then you can use two fingertips if you like, you're going to apply some light pressure, four to five seconds, circular motion, and you release. Jessica Stover 10:17 Our next one is the Heart 7 - H T 7, also known as the Spirit Gate. So the location of this, it's on the inner wrist crease, so I'm holding up my hand here, so it's going to be opposite of our thumb. Jessica Stover 11:08 So under kind of our little finger, toward the owner, or the on the on the little fingers side, you're going to feel a shallow hollow at the base of this bone here at the base of this area. So it's a source point on the heart channel, where vital energy of the heart organ system gathers, and it, it's going to connect the heart Meridian, and it's going to nourish spirit, and treat emotional imbalances and strengthen the heart Qi and blood, it can quiet the mind. It can also settle your worry anxiety, it can ease emotional distress and sleep disturbances. It can release any chest tightness and heart palpitations that you might be experiencing with anxiety if that happens for you. And it can also increase your joy and connection. And it can be used for treatment for emotional distress overall. So it's the spirit gate, again, it's on the same other either your right or your left hand again, you're going to find it at the base at the top of your wrist, below your little finger, there's going to be a tiny, tiny little indentation, hollow at the base of that bone area. Jessica Stover 12:26 And again, you're going to give some light pressure with your index finger into that area four to five seconds, you might do a circular massage movement, and you're going to release. Jessica Stover 12:40 So those are the three that are the easiest to access for our purposes right here. But there's points all over our body, I want to share just another one here real quick. It's the Pericardium 6 and trying to see if I can get that one pulled up. So the Pericardium 6, it's commonly used to help relieve nausea, upset stomach, motion sickness. If you experience carpal tunnel syndrome, it may assist with that. If you experience headaches. So this P 6 point it's located three finger breaths below the wrist on the inner forearm in between the two tendons. I'm trying to pull up my sleeves here. So you're going to locate this point by turning your hands over to the palms facing upward. And you're going to be taking your three fingers from when you fold down your wrist, have your index finger up so it means they're in the fold and you're having three fingers down. So where your ring finger stops, roll it down, and that's where you're going to find this point. Okay, so you're going to be applying pressure between the two tendons in this area and massaging again for four to five seconds giving some light, moderate pressure and maybe doing a circular massage motion. And you're going to release it again it can help relieve nausea, upset stomach motion sickness, difficulties you might experience if you do have carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as headaches. And then I think for my final one... Jessica Stover 14:13 And what I'll do I'll make a listing of all of these and some good two resources so you can learn more about them. There's hundreds of websites and resources online, anywhere from the New York Times. The National Institute for Health - goodness - Vogue magazine, put out an article about self acupressure. Jessica Stover 14:36 The Triple Energizer I think is the last one I will share with us today. I - Triple Energizers 3, and they may be called different things doing - who you talk to, but the Central Insight. Okay, so T E 3, okay, that's what we're going to call it. It can be used for temporal headaches shoulder and neck tension and upper back pain. This point is located in the groove formed by the tendons of the fourth and fifth fingers behind the knuckles. So again, you're looking for when, when you're looking at the top of your hand, I'm going to be showing you but you're looking for the point, the grooves formed by the attendance of the fourth and fifth fingers behind the knuckles. So you're finding those knuckles, you're going down and you're finding that groove point there, on the top of your hand, it we're going to find this point we're going to use kind of affirm moderate pressure. And we're going to give a massage, maybe circular motions area with that pressure for four to five seconds. And again, you can do this to yourself in time, these are things that you have at your disposal. Jessica Stover 15:48 And there are so many more pieces kind of you can add to your toolbox. And that you can do at any time, day or night, that can be of real benefit to you. One that I like to use a lot when I'm having sinus headaches - and I'm feeling a lot of sinus pressure - and I give pressure actually to my sinus cavities under my eyes at the top of my cheekbones, I may also use another point, I'm still learning about self acupressure myself. So I don't have the names for these off the top of my head. But one of my big go-to's when I get headaches is at the at the base of the thumb and the ring finger and kind of that meaty - meaty area. There's a point there that helps with headaches. And what I do is I do a pinching motion with my index and thumb in this area. And I give pretty much moderate heavy pressure to this area. It can be tender for some. If it hurts, let back on the - on the pressure a little bit. It shouldn't be an "ouch" painful. "Oh, that really hurts." It should be more of a maybe it hurts so good. Or what you can tolerate. So adjust it appropriately. But I'll apply pressure there again, sometimes I'll even interlock and do both at the same point making myself a pretzel right now. When I, when I'm having headaches and either the Tylenol or Advil isn't quite working, or it's not kicked in yet, or just just an added piece of comfort that I can give myself in the moment anytime that I can provide to myself. So I hope this was helpful to you all today. I hope you find it beneficial. And you may use it in the future. So I'm going to turn this now back over to Rosa. Rosa McAllister 17:35 Thank you, Jess so much. I'm sitting here it's early morning for me. I'm sitting here doing all my acupressure points. And uh, yeah, I was doing my sinuses too. Thank you ever so much. And Lauren, thank you, thank you for the reminders to just have fun creating our hobbies and not judge ourselves. Really hearing that Rosa.
